Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Yet

The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team could be building a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in multiple ways, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
