Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
